Very like looking into the mouth of Hell, he [Laurence] thought for that one narrow instant, staring into the red maw.."(2/2/45) Her formation escorted Temeraire and Laurence back to Dover from Calais (4/17/397)

The baby dragon looked up at them with glaring yellow eyes, hot and indignant, coughed once, twice, and drew in and held a deep breath that made its sides puff out like a balloon. Abruptly thin jets of steam issued out of its spines, hissing, and it opened its mouth and jetted out a little stream of flame some five feet long, sending the nearest men jumping back in surprise.."(3/16/317), "..the coiled serpentine length of Iskierka's body, faint threads of steam issuing from the many needle-like spikes upon her body.."(4/2/32), "Iskierka had already established herself to her own satisfaction, if no one else's, by clawing out a deep pit in the clearing next to Temeraire’s where she had been houused, then filling it with ash: this acquired from some two dozen young trees which she had unceremoniously uprooted and burnt up inside her pit. She had then added to the powdery grey mixture a collection of boulders, which she fired to a moderate glow before going to sleep, comfortably, in her heated nest.."(4/2/33), "...being rather sinuous than bulky, in the Kazilik style, and she yet looked little more than garden snake next to Temeraire. But her appearance at close quarters was by no means reassuring, with the hissing-kettle gurgle of whatever internal mechanism produced her fire plainly audible and the vents of hot air issuing from her spines, white and impressive in the cold."(4/4/86f) [not really a character trait but i wanted to note down that Iskierkas Pirate Career starts with the fishing boat at (4/4/88), "Iskierka's eyes wrnt platter-wide, and she hissed from all her spikes like a furnace; in an instant she had thrown a pair of jealous coils around Granby, which bid fair to goil him like a lobster in steam."[upon threatening to return Granby to Tem](4/4/90), "Iskierka's harness was indeed a great deal of trouble to arrange, as the spines were placed quite randomly, and the frequent issuing of steam made her hide slick.."(4/4/91), "..she can set it [sail cloth] alight from eighty yards. Twice the range of a Flamme-de-Gloire, and she can go at it for five minutes straight; I don't understand how she gets her breath while she is at it"(4/4/92), “..and through the unearthly ochre glow, Iskierka came diving down, her spikes dragging ragged shreds of mist and smoke along behind her, and shot a flamboyant billowing arc of flame directly across the ship's bows.”[i know not really physical description but the scene was described so cool](4/13/326), “..having gained her full growth in the intervening months since they had seen her, she was now enormously long and sprawling, the heavy coils of her serpentine body at least as long as Temeraire, and draped over anything which happened to be in her way, most inconveniently.”(4/13/327) has taken five prizes in the time the others went to Africa (4/13/328) “She had on a lot of gaudy stuff on her harness, some chains that were probably not real gold at all, and which had in them chips of what were certainly colored glass..”(5/7/124) “..hissed in a dozen voices at once, from throat and spikes together..”(7/5/92) “..’and granby will be an emperor’ she added, and jetted so much steam in her delight that with the sunlight reflected off the wall-panels of gold, whe was wreatged in a whilly undeserved gauzy halo of light..”(7/12/245) “[fever after being wounded in the rainforest] ..the steam which ordinarily issued from her spikes dried to a bare trickle, and her eyes were glassy and bloodshot nearly to black. The heat of her body was become intolerable for close quarters.”(7/15/283) “..leaving a streak of violet-green dazzle..” [her fire in the night](9/11/197)

Jinai: [m]
“...a monstrous sea-serpent rearing itself up out of the bay. The rocks were not rocks at all; they were part of its body, and it was twice as big as Maximus even only in the parts which Temeraire could see. And then Temeraire realized he was wrong: it was not a serpent; it was a dragon, with forelegs out upon the sand: only it was very long, and with stubby wings.” (8/2/34) “...its own small wings flattening against its back, and then it plunged its head into the water and opened its jaw wide. The dragon, already so massive but slender, began now to rapidly swell up and out to the sides:...” (8/2/35) “He [Laurence] looked at the great serpentine creature looming overhead: the gleam of intelligence in its eye was plain, despite its monstrous size, and it was following their conversation with a keen, cold interest. …[..]... Its eye was fixed upon him, badly bloodshot.”(8/3/49) Lord Jinai, the giant Sui-Riu that was in a fight with Lily and the others over the trees, named first at (8/3/54) “Guardian of the West”, he is four hundred years old (8/3/62)
John Wampanoag: [m]
John Wampanoag of Salem Massachusetts, “although his harness was a little strange and looked like nothing so much as a waistcoat, at this distance. but he was only lightweight, a little bigger than Dulcia, and not very dangerous looking: a very ordinary sort of brown speckled with cream, with a long narrow snout and broad forehead. Certainly he did not look anything like the sea-dragon; if anything he looked more like Churki in the conformation of his body, though he was not feathered, of course”(8/5/99) “the brown dragon’s harness was odd indeed, as it came into closer view: it was indeed made up of almost pouches of some ordinary fabric, brown wool perhaps, and these were overlaid upon and attached to a fine mesh which covered him nearly from the base of his neck to his tail almost like a shirt, made up of many thin chains - chains of gold, Temeraire realized with a real start, as the sun caught upon them, and so many! although almost entirely concealed by the dull fabric.”(8/5/102) owner of the Lacewing (8/5/103) Firm partner of Devereux and Pickman (humans likely since John talks about him having to prove that he won't fly off with the cargo)(8/5/103) “...sitting up on his heels showed how a similar chain [of glass beads, pearls and shells] hung from one woolen pouch to another across his breast.”(8/5/113)

The hot queasy kerosene smell of dragon-breath came in upon them as he roared furiously, and the fsint undertaste of rot from old meals.”(4/9/229), “..his pale yellow-green eyes were fixed malevolently upon the fissure. …[..]..pulling his lips back from his serrated teeth and forward again..”(4/9/230), “fifteen tons at least[Chenery]..[..]..I would call it closer to twenty[Warren]t”(4/9/231), named revealed to be Kefentse (4/10/248) “...that what he had taken for tusks in Kefentse were a kind of jewellry…”[Like Mokhachane golden tusk-piercings, Kefentses tusks might be piercings](4/11/373)
Kiyomizu: [f]
The smaller Sui-Riu that took Laurence and Junichiro in into her temple “..it was a dragon, hide dark greenish black and with large eyes of pallid grey, which evidently had curled up to sleep against the comfort of the trees”(8/4/72) “It was only the size of a yellow reaper, perhaps, with a wide ruff and long dangling tendrils that hung down about its mouth..[..]....He uncurled himself and rose onto four feet, shaking himself out almost as might have a wet dog. he was long and as narrow in the chest as the base of his tail, with feet widely spaced; his wings were short and peculiarly stubby, folded against his back.”(8/4/73) “...sprawling himself across the floor - or herself, Laurence belatedly corrected, when some portions of anatomy were thereby more exposed to view; he had been mistaken by a series of low finned spines which curved out from the dragon's body along its length.”(8/4/74) “...to see the dragon emerge - at least he thought it was the same dragon, but she had swelled out to nearly thrice her size, so wide that her very hide was stretched to a paler greenish silver.”(8/4/82) prefers to be called Kiyo, named first at (8/4/89) can produce very hot or even boiling water (8/4/95)
Kulingile: [m]
[egg] “..and one unfortunate cross between a Chequered Nettle and a Parnassian, who had somehow produced a shockingly small egg that looked more likely to produce a Winchester than a heavy-weight.”(5/16/368)
[hatchling] “..It was a strange, misshapen creature, with none of the lithe, deadly grace that every other dragonet whom Laurence had ever seen had possessed instantly on cracking the shell. It was a long almost skeletal thing, uniformly mottled brown-grey, and bristling along all its shoulders and in patches over its back with spikes very like the barbs on the tails of the chequered nettle, one of which had produced the egg; it had, also, inheritedd the claws of its Parnassian sirelong, so long they bid fair to snag upon its own flesh.
Its wings were a little stubby and badly cramped together, draped loosely over the hatchlings's sides, but as it tried to stretch them out, those sides were revealed - distended into swollen folds which bulged out over the dragonet's shoulder and hip-joints, as if its rib cage were shrunken in too small, and the hide too large for it.
Yet it was otherwise painfully thin to look upon, the bones of the shoulders and hip standing in sharp relief: long and narrow, and had been folded upon itself several times in the tight bounds of the shell. The dragonet had evidently suffered from the confinement…[..]... in a small piping voice which sounded very much ad though it were being whistled through a reed…”(6/10/178) named Kulingile by Demane, meaning “All is well” (6/10/182) “..who looked very strange: his sides had swelled out again, and he was sleeping in an improper posture, crouching low to the ground with his head and limbs dangling. …[..]..[being nudged]..Kulingile did not tip over or lie down properly, but bobbed away over the ground.”(6/13/247) “..Kulingile was also coming into a quite handsome pattern of golden scales, as he grew..”(6/17/339) Kulingile being bigger than Temeraire and Piccolo (7/5/98) “..he hhad bedides the advantage of his immense weight the particularly vicious talons inherited from his Parnassian progenitor, and the spiked tail of the Chequered Nettle from the other side..”(7/6/136) “...who had at last stopped getting longer, but had only just yesterday sprouted the beginnings of a pair of horns, much to everyone's bafflement: neither the Chequered Nettle nor the Parnassian, his progenitors, possessed any similar adornments.” (8/9/202)

Lung Tien Lien, "..the familiar leathery snapping of wings, most and steam rolling away from the stones for the descending dragon, a white ghostly shadow coalescing from the silver rain. She folded great white wings and came pacing towards them, her talons clicking on the stones; ..[..].. and she lowered her great, wide-ruffed head towards him, calling his [Yongxings] name in a clear, sweet voice…[..]...she was a shockingly pure white, a color he had never before seen in a dragon even in spots or streaks. Her scales had translucent gleam of fine, much-scraped vellum, perfectly colorless, and the rims of her eyes were a glassy pink mazed with blood vessels so engorged as to be visible even at a distance. Yet she had the same great ruff, and the long narrow tendrils fringing her jaws, just as Temeraire did: the color alone was unnatural. She wore a heavy golden torgue set with rubies around the base of her neck, and gold talon-sheats around tipped with rubies upon all of her foreleg claws, the deep color echoing the hue of her eyes.."(2/12/294), ".she wore this morning an odd sort of headdress, made of thin silk draped between gold bars, which stood out over her eyes rather like a canopy and shaded them.."(2/12/296), "..all her elaborate rubies and gold had been stripped away, and she looked pale and queerly vulnerable with no jewels to relieve the white translucence of her color-leached skin; in the darkness, her scarlet eyes looked black and hollow."(3/prologue/2), "..There was something different in her appearance: in China he [Laurence] had seen her wear elaborate ensembles of gold and rubies; in Istanbul she had been wholly bare of jewels; but now she wore a very different piece, something like a diadem set around the base of her ruff and hooked cleverly under the edges and the jaw, made of shining steel rather than gold, and secure in the center one enormous diamond nearly the size of a chicken's egg, which blazed insolently even in the thin morning light…"(3/13/253f), "..She had no harness nor crew, but the great diamond upon her forehead was glowing fiery orange with the reflected sunset, almost to match the virulence of her red eyes.."(3/14/273), "..[divine wind]...her ruff under its steel diadem spreading wide around her head, her sides belling out like sails overpressed with wind… [..]....Lien was some thirty years of age…(3/14/275) “She was looking splendidly, Temeraire could not help but reluctantly acknowledge: besides the immense diamond upon her breast, which caught the light of the lamps, she wore also a sort of gauntlet upon each foreleg - talon-sheaths tipped in rubies, joined by delicate lacy chains of silver to broad cuffs set with diamonds, which were in turn joined to anothet set of cuffs above her elbow-joint set with sapphires, so that she wore the colors of the tricolor herself. Her eyes were slit pupiled, like Temeraire’s, but orange-yellow, and the exposed bone spurs showing on either side of her jaw gave her a very savage appearance."(1/8/193), "..her alarming eyes gave her stare a baleful quality.."(1/8/194), "..the black acid.."(1/11/280), "..who ordinarily considered it beneath her dignity to curl up with other dragons"(2/5/111), “..for her own transfer: a muzzle had to be fitted over her head, from which a large metal platter was suspended beneath her jaws, and this covered with more of the oiled sand.[flying over cape town while sick].. ..[..]... Lily unfurled her great wings, the feature from which the breed took its name: rippled along the edges in narrow bands of black and white with the dark blue of her body shading across their length to a briliant deep orange the color of old marmelade; they shone iridescent in the sun. Fully extended, they made double the length of her entire body, and once she had fairly launched herself aloft, she scarcely needed to beat them, but glided stately along without great exertion..”(4/6/163) “..her lurid orange eye..”(4/13/323) “..Lily raised her wings and flared them out a little: the brilliant orange and purple would have warned any European beast, and their immense wingspan…”(8/2/35)

Various smaller loops had been threaded upon the straps, to buckle around the legs and the base of the neck and tail, to keep the harness in place, and several narrower and thinner bands strapped across his back..[..]..scales were surprisingly soft to the touch..[..]..although the harness and the white-wrapped buckles were ugly against the sleek black body, and did not fit very well..[..]..Temeraire was not a clean eater..[..]..enjoy the intestines in particular..”(1/1/21), “..glossy black hide..[..].. warm black hide..”(1/1/24)
(YOUNG)"..by the end of it [the first week]..[..]..he had already grown heavier than a cart-horse, and longer from tip to tail than the launch.."(1/2/31), "..thunder did not frighten him, nor lightning..[..]..Temeraire's shoulder topped his [Laurence] head by nearly a foot, and that the foreleg which had once been as delicate as a lady's wrist was now thicker around than his thigh.."(1/2/33), "..smooth black hide .[..]..great heartbeat..[..]..heat of the dragon's body.."(1/2/38), "..they had put a band around the narrow part of Temeraire's neck beneath the head and attatched reins to this.."(1/2/39), “..stopped and hovered in place to eat, his wings beating perpendicular to his body in swiveling arcs..”(1/2/40), “..was bidding fair to become longer than the ship [Reliant] itself..”(1/3/55), “..Temeraire carried his tail off the ground, and it lashed the air gently as he walked..[..].. the six spines that divided the sections of Temeraire’s wings..”(1/3/61), “..the five talons which Temeraire had upon each foot..”(1/3/62) ”..look at the delicacy of the membrane; the consistency of the color throughout the body, and the coordination between the color of the eyes and the markings.”(1/3/62f), “..and was of course less than a fifth of her [Laetificat] size as yet, but this time he managed a much louder roar..”(1/4/81), “..already close to nine tons..”(1/4/88), “Temeraire hummed in thought, deep in his belly..”(1/4/95), “..the dragon’s broad foreleg..”(1/4/103), “his warm breath coming out as small trails of smoke in the cool night air..”(1/4/104), “..at the sight of the rows of gleaming white teeth: Temeraire’s incisors were already larger than a man’s fist, and with a serrated edge..”(1/4/109), "..he is at present some nine tons in weight, and it is nearly aix weeks since he hatched.."(1/5/116), "looking at his gold-and-pearl chain more often, and touching it with the tip of his tongue; he [Laurence] was beginning to recognize the gesture as a desire for reassurance.."(1/6/152), "a broad pendant of platinum almost like a breastplate, set with sapphires around a single enormous pearl.."(1/6/167), "the broad neck-brace marked with his name in silver rivets"(1/6/168)
(GROWN) "Temeraire was scarcely one man's height less in the shoulder [than Maximus], though much leaner, and his growth was now mostly in bulk and in his wings rather than his height. He was beautifully proportionate throughout: his tail was long and very graceful; his wings fit elegantly against his body and looked precisely the right size when fanned out. His colors had intensified, the black hide turning hard and glossy save for the soft nose, and the blue and pale grey markings on the edges of his wings spreading and becoming opalescent."(1/7/174), "..the great shining pearl blazoned upon his chest.."(1/7/175), "twenty-five knots"[Tem flying fast to escort back Victoriatus](1/7/179), "..long, ropy muscles of Temeraire's neck, feeling them move smoothly as though oiled beneath the skin.."(1/7/181), "..as he began to sprout thin tendrils round his jaws, and a ruff of delicate webbing stretched between flexible horns around his face, almost like a frill. It gave him a dramatic, serious look, not at all unbecoming, but there was no denying he looked very different from the others.."(1/8/210), (when anxious)"..his ruff drooping low upon his neck.."(1/9/239), "..the leathery snap of Temeraire's wings, each beat like a sail going taut.."(1/12/315), “..stopped and hovered in mid-air before the oncoming dragons, spreading his wings as if to bar the way; his ruff raised instinctively up, the webbed skin translucent grey in the sunlight. A slow, deep shudder passed along his length as he drew breath and his sides swelled out even further against his massive rib cage, making the bones stand out in relief: there was a strange stretched-tight quality to his skin, so that Laurence began to be alarmed: he could feel the air moving beneath, echoing, resonating, in the chambers of Temeraire’s lungs.”(1/12/329), “A low reverberation seemed to build throughout Temeraire’s flesh, like a drum-beat rolling..[..]..felt a single tremendous shudder travel forward along Temeraire’s body, all the gathered breath caught up in that motion: Temeraire opened his jaws, and what emerged was a roar that was less sound than force, a terrible wave of noise so vast it seemed to distort the air before him.”(1/12/330), “..the security of the slow, deep rushing of Temeraire’s heartbeat, so very much like the endless sound of the sea.”(1/13/342), named Lung Tien Xiang by the Chinese(2/1/8), "..the spiked ruff around his head.."(2/1/24), "..distinctive with his hide and wings of unbroken black, save for the deep blue and pearlescent grey markings along the edges…[..]...to feel the living cureent of power running through Temeraire’s body.."(2/1/28), "..his great ruff was standing up stiffly around his head.."(anger/intimidation)(2/2/51), "..even as he spoke he was busy polishing the great sapphire pendant which Laurence had given him, and which he never removed save for that prupose."(2/3/89), "..the ominous shadow of the ruff and the serrated teeth gleaming.."(2/7/162), "..well he might not, speaking from a height of some thirty feet and a weight topping eighteen tons."(2/8/205), "..among the hand-sized teeth..[..]...that Temeraire’s narrow forked tongue, ordinarily pale pink, was presently coated thickly with white, mottled with virulent red spots..[being sick at capetown].."(2/9/216), "..Temeraire held quite motionless with staring horror, his eyes fixed on the serpent's crunching jaws and his ruff completely flattened against his neck.."[horrified](2/10/244), "..the militant light had faded a little from his eyes, and gradually his tail ceased its restless mid-air twitching and coiled again into a neatly spiraled heap upon the deck, the curving horns of his ruff lying more easily against his neck.."[questioning then calming](2/10/254), "..Temeraire's chest swelled out, and his ruff, queerly, stretched: something Laurence had never seen before, the narrow horns which made it up expanding outwards, the webbing drawn along with it.."[trying to intimidate Lien](2/16/380), "..though his tail twitching rapidly betraying his agitation.."(3/7/139), "..the nails of his talons were roughly the length of her [Queen of Prussia] forearm and of polished black horn, sharp along the edges and coming to a wicked point."(3/15/291) “..his magpie nature..[hoarding]” (4/8/198) “..he was, Laurence sadly noted, becoming excessive nice in his tastes, an unfortunate habit in a soldier..”(4/8/199), “..so they had gone some hundred and sixty miles, in less than seven hours. Twenty knots, twenty-five.”(4/16/368) “He did not have spines along his back, the way Maximus or Requiescat did, but was sleek; he was perhaps a bit long for his weight, by British standards.”(5/2/29), “..the great glossy lowered head with the eyes half-a-foot across and glittering yellow-slitted like lamps, over a jawful of serrated teeth with the smallest the size of a man’s hand.”(5/7/140), “....almost as fine, Teneraire thought, as his own [Epaulette] pale blue matched set: he of course had needed two..”(5/12/277) “Temeraire hastily stilled his claws: he often could not help furrowing the earth when he was distracted, even though he was ashamed to have so fidgety a habit…”(9/3/52) flying over the ship Temeraire (9/14/276)

Extra 2: Flight formation:
The formation ordinarily flew in a wedge-shaped block that resembled nothing more than a flock of migrating geese, with Lily at the head. The Yellow Reapers Messoria and Immortalis filled the key flanking positions, providing the protective bulk to keep Lily from close-quarter attack, while the ends were held by the smaller but more agile Dulcia, a Grey Copper, and a Pascal's Blue called Nitidus.
[..]
The two larger dragons [Temeraire&Maximus] had been added into position so as to form a back row behind Lily, closing the formation, to defend it against attack from other heavy-combat-class dragons, and to carry the great loads of bombs that their crews would drop below upon those targets that had already been weakened by Lily's acid.
[..]
reaching their cruising speed of a steady seventeen knots
